Legal Advice For Expecting Father Who Does Not Want To Adopt?
My girlfriend became pregnant. She does not want to keep the baby, but instead place the baby up for adoption with an agency. I am against this because I feel very strongly about parenting. We are both in our mid twenties and out of college. She has given me proof in writing that I am the father which should grant me some merit for decisions. What advise can someone offer for me to help build my case in winning custody instead of the child being placed for adoption?

Are you prepared to financially support her through the pregnancy? You feel so strongly about parenting but not marrying the mother of your child?
Yahoo Answers is not a reliable source of legal advice.
Having said that, your consent to the adoption would probably be required, http://laws.adoption.com/statutes/consen…
but keep in mind that your consent for an abortion would not be required.
It is a mess, though, and I am not certain that you have the best interest of the child at heart. Your girlfriend might be the one who does.
you will have rights over anybody else. you have custody the moment the child is born. having it in writting will not do anything..you will be required to take a dna test to confirm fatherhood (name on b.c. doenst matter…DNA matters). if you want to adopt and the mother has relinquished her rights, you still have custody until you sign over rights.. The adoption agency cannot adopt out a child if one biological parent does not want the adoption to take place. its called kidnapping
You don’t have to ‘win’ custody. You have custody if you are the father. You tell the mother that you would like to raise the child. If she complains or refuses, you hire a lawyer ASAP. Make certain that your name is on the BC, as some states have varying laws about father’s rights if the BC doesn’t have your name on it. You MUST sign over your rights if you are the father. Unless you sign over your rights/unless you are found to be unfit as a parent, the child belongs with you.
The Answer is Simple! You have custody of the Child.
The courts will consider Priority. Meaning will the child be raised by “X” or (Blood) “Father.”
Good Luck You will make a fine father
You are the father, it is thus your child too. You can then take custody and go after her for child support.
Word to the wise, don’t use that as a bargaining block, she will quickly realize that there are bucks to be made off of you if she keeps the child.
If the child is put up for adoption and you sign off on that, then the CS reason becomes moot.
Hate to say this, if the baby is a blond haired blue eyed bundle of joy it will be quickly adopted. If it is black then it will take more time. If it is ugly, the time factor goes up. Retarded or deformed, a ward of the state.
Moral of the story, humans are human, we don’t always do the right things, and if there is money involved it can not only cloud our judgment, it can even turn us into things we detest and we won’t even see it. Or if we do we’ll make up excuses.
Adopt, keep quiet and try to keep the mother involved in the childs life.
